Oscar-Nominated Director Reveals Financial Struggle After Wins

Director Brady Corbet has spoken out about the financial struggles he faced while making his Oscar-nominated film “The Brutalist”. Despite winning almost every major award this season, Corbet revealed that he made “zero dollars” from the film’s production. He shared his experience on a podcast, highlighting the financial precarity many filmmakers face.

Corbet, who directed the three-and-a-half-hour-long epic, has spoken to numerous other filmmakers who struggle with making ends meet despite having successful films. The director emphasized that promotional tours and awards campaigns take up valuable time, leaving little room for paid work.

Corbet’s film premiered in September and has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards. However, the director himself did not earn any income from the film’s promotion, which took him away from other job opportunities. “Our film premiered in September, so I’ve been doing this for six months and had zero income because I don’t have any time to work,” he said.

The film was made on a relatively low budget of $10 million but took Corbet seven years to complete. He faces financial struggles despite his success with the film, highlighting the challenges many filmmakers encounter in the industry.
