Inter Miami Win Frigid Match Against Sporting KC

Inter Miami CF defeated Sporting Kansas City 1-0 in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup first round at Children’s Mercy Park, despite playing in freezing temperatures. Coach Javier Mascherano described the conditions as “inhumane” but praised his team for their intensity and attitude.

The match took place on a night when temperatures plummeted to five degrees Fahrenheit with a feels-like temperature of negative five degrees Celsius. Despite this, Lionel Messi scored his first official goal of the year after connecting with teammate Sergio Busquets.

Mascherano’s win marks his debut in an official match as Inter Miami’s new manager, following his appointment last November. The team will now host Sporting Kansas City at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on February 25 for the second leg of the series.
