Inter Miami CF kicked off its 2025 campaign with a crucial 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup at Children’s Mercy Park. Despite frigid conditions, Lionel Messi led the team to a stunning win, scoring the only goal in the second half.
Messi found space on the field after teammate Sergio Busquets provided him with a ball into the box. He beat his defender and sent the shot into the opposite corner, securing the win for Inter Miami. The match was back-and-forth, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities – 16 shots in total.
However, injuries to key players Jordi Alba and goalkeeper Drake Callender did not hinder Inter Miami’s chances. Despite missing their top players, the team secured a crucial victory from the first leg and marked an important away goal that could prove decisive in the series.
The second leg will be played at Chase Stadium on February 25, with Sporting Kansas City needing to score at least two goals to advance to the next round.
