Electric Fire Pumper Now Serving Madison

The City of Madison Fire Department has welcomed the first Pierce Volterra electric pumper into service, marking a significant milestone in the fire service industry’s transition to zero-emissions technology. The custom-built unit is designed to meet the city’s environmental and operational goals, offering seamless integration with existing fleet.

Fire Chief Chris Carbon praised the new pumper, saying it represents the department’s dedication to innovation, safety, and sustainability. The Volterra electric pumper features Pierce’s patented parallel-electric drivetrain and a comprehensive charging infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted performance.

– Pierce Enforcer custom chassis with seating for six
– TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension
– 246 kWh battery solution with a six-year warranty
– Consolidated high-voltage integration for safety and efficiency
– 1,500 GPM single-stage pump and 500-gallon water tank
– Zero-emissions pumping and driving with seamless backup power

The Pierce Volterra electric pumper is expected to respond to emergency calls from Fire Station 8 on Lien Road. The city’s commitment to sustainability is now embodied in the new vehicle, which aligns with the department’s goal of reducing its environmental footprint.
