US Representative Matt Gaetz is facing fresh allegations of wrongdoing after a lawyer representing two women testified that they witnessed him having sex with an underage girl at a party in 2017. According to the lawyer, Joel Leppard, one of the women described seeing Gaetz engaging in intimate relations with a 17-year-old at a Florida house party.
The testimony was made public during a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations against Gaetz and young women. The committee had been investigating claims of drug use but dropped its probe after Gaetz’s resignation last week. Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the report would not be made public due to Gaetz’s no longer being in office.
Leppard stated both women received payment for sex through Venmo, contradicting previous denials from Gaetz. The allegations are among several against Gaetz who has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to become Attorney General. Republican senators have expressed strong opposition to the nomination.
