Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has terminated more than 150,000 square feet of office space in the Metro Atlanta area as part of its effort to reduce federal government size. The largest lease to be cut was a nearly 120,000 square foot space at the Williams Building in Chamblee, which is now set to expire on May 31.
DOGE claims this termination will save the federal government over $2 million in remaining rent obligations. This move follows a pattern of reductions in office leases, with DOGE having canceled over 2.3 million square feet of space so far, saving an estimated $78.8 million annually.
Other notable lease terminations include a 17,000 square foot space for the Food and Drug Administration at 2077 Convention Center Concourse, which was set to expire on July 31. DOGE’s website shows no estimated savings from this cancellation.
Overall, DOGE has reduced federal government leases in Metro Atlanta by 153,000 square feet, including a Federal Trade Commission office and an agency called Allowance To Former Presidents. The Trump administration’s goal of reducing federal government size remains a priority, with plans to fire thousands of probationary employees across the country.
