Elon Musk Backs Off After Roasting Tom Hanks Over SNL Sketch

Elon Musk sparked shock and outrage after retweeting an offending comment about Tom Hanks over his Saturday Night Live sketch. The 68-year-old actor played Donald Trump supporter Doug in a skit that featured him wearing a “MAGA” baseball cap and refusing to shake hands with Kenan Thompson’s character.

The original sketch aired in 2016 on the show Black Jeopardy, where Hanks poked fun at Trump supporters. Many Republican viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize Hanks for the performance, calling it a “sad mockery” of half the country and saying they would never watch his performances or movies again.

Musk, who heads up Trump’s Department for Government Efficiency, re-tweeted one such comment that included a derogatory term towards Hanks. The tweet also claimed that racism comes from elite Democrats. Musk shared the post with two fire emojis alongside it.

Many people were left stunned by Musk’s reaction, calling out his lack of validity in sharing an offensive comment without proof. Others questioned why he would re-tweet such content.

In a separate incident, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson (also 68) stormed off the set of SNL’s 50th anniversary special after presenter Jimmy Fallon cracked a joke about not giving out any awards that night. The couple could be seen taking their seats and then quickly exiting the venue, with Fallon jokingly saying they “lost Tom Hanks and Rita.”
