Rosemount, the No. 7 seed, stunned second-seeded Centennial/Spring Lake Park 3-2 to earn its first-ever win in the Class AA Girls State Hockey Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 20. The Irish’s victory marks their third consecutive State Tournament appearance.
The upset move Rosemount into the Class AA semifinals, where they will face either No. 3 Hill-Murray or No. 6 Andover. Senior forward Annalee Holzer played a crucial role in the win, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Her even-strength goal with 2:21 remaining in regulation time gave Rosemount a two-goal lead that it held for most of the game.
Centennial/Spring Lake Park, which had won its last 12 games, was unable to complete a comeback despite sophomore forward Grace Laager’s two goals. The loss snapped the Cougars’ winning streak and marked their first exit from the tournament since 2011.
Rosemount will look to build on this momentum as they advance to the semifinals on Friday night.
