A 15-year-old Ohio teenager has died due to complications from the flu. According to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), the teen was from Allen County, but no age or health conditions were disclosed.
The ODH reports a high level of flu activity in the state, with over 9,000 reported influenza-associated hospitalizations. This number exceeds the average for this time of year and indicates a more severe season than usual.
Typically, Ohio sees between one to six child flu deaths each season. The director of the ODH, Bruce Vanderhoff, expressed concern about the flu’s impact on public health, stating that it is a serious threat, even though it is common.
Vanderhoff urged parents to protect their children by getting them vaccinated and practicing good hand hygiene. He also emphasized the importance of staying home when sick, especially during flu season.
