Neighbours Soap Opera Canceled After 40 Years

Australia’s longest-running soap opera “Neighbours” has been canceled again. The show, which first aired in 1985, will cease production after its 40th year. Despite the cancellation, new episodes from the 40th-anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video four times a week until the end of December.

The original TV program ended with a finale in 2022 but was rebooted by Amazon MGM Studios the following year. The show currently streams in several countries, including Australia, the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Amazon has confirmed that “Neighbours” will come to an end on Prime Video after its 40-year run. The company praised the show’s impact over the years, saying it has brought joy to its fanbase globally.

The show’s executive producer, Jason Herbison, expressed pride in the show’s success, including its appearance as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Series in 2024. However, he also hinted that there may be more stories to tell in the future.

The cancellation has been met with disappointment from cast members and fans, who have taken to social media to express their sadness. Australian actors April Rose Pengilly and Matty Wilson have both shared messages on Instagram, with Wilson thanking fans for their support and Pengilly describing the cancellation as “awful.”

Amazon will air a special week of episodes in March to celebrate 40 years of the show, featuring new and old residents of Ramsay Street. The show’s appearances over the years include several high-profile celebrities, such as Kylie Minogue, Liam Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, and Guy Pearce.
