Amazon Ends USB Kindle Download Feature for Ebooks

Amazon is set to discontinue its ebook download feature via USB on February 26, 2025. This means users will no longer be able to transfer ebooks from their computer to their Kindle devices using this method.

However, there are still ways to save your books before the deadline. Users can download their titles to their computer by going to Amazon’s website, signing in, and selecting “Download & Transfer via USB” while navigating to a book they want to download. This will save the ebook in Amazon’s AZW3 format.

Alternatively, users can also move their ebooks to other devices using software like Calibre. This program allows users to remove DRM from their ebooks, making them compatible with other e-readers. Users should note that this feature is only available for books purchased before 2024 and cannot be used in bulk due to the time-consuming process involved.

Despite the change, Amazon will still allow users to download ebooks directly to their Kindle devices via Wi-Fi after February 26.
