Two Saturday Night Live (SNL) alums, Steve Martin and Maya Rudolph, have contracted COVID-19 after appearing in NBC’s 50th anniversary special. The duo was performing on the show when they tested positive.
Martin Short, who has also tested positive, had previously revealed that both he and Martin would be rescheduling their tour dates due to the outbreak. The sold-out tour dates have been postponed to October 17th and 18th in Knoxville and Durham, respectively.
Rudolph appeared on SNL from 1999 to 2007 and performed alongside fellow alum Amy Poehler in a reunion sketch. It is unclear whether she knew she was infectious when she participated in the show.
The incident highlights the risks of COVID-19 transmission in large gatherings, especially during winter. There is no indication that Rudolph intentionally spread the virus to others.
