Microsoft is reportedly testing a new feature for the Windows 11 Start menu that would allow users to display more pinned apps without needing to scroll. A toggle labeled “Show all pins by default” was recently spotted in a preview build, sparking interest among users.
The current layout options for the Start menu are limited to three: More Pins, Default, and More Recommendations. While Microsoft has faced user requests to remove or reduce the size of the Recommendations section, it remains intact despite efforts to personalize settings.
This new feature could be implemented by adjusting the size of app icons, increasing the overall height of the Start menu, or removing the Recommendations section altogether. However, each approach comes with drawbacks, such as reduced legibility and a cluttered interface.
The fact that this toggle exists suggests Microsoft is exploring ways to give users more control over their Start menu layout. Although the exact implementation remains unclear, it’s unlikely that users will be able to completely remove the Recommendations section in future updates.
