Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking a court order requiring the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to conduct gender testing for athletes competing in women’s sports. The move comes as the NCAA recently changed its transgender policy, limiting competition in women’s sports to those assigned female at birth.
Paxton argues that the current policy lacks adequate screening measures, allowing biological men to participate in women’s sports without detection. He claims that the NCAA has failed to implement effective mechanisms for determining an athlete’s sex.
The NCAA says it has clarified its policy and implemented procedures for certifying athlete eligibility. However, Paxton believes that these measures are insufficient and seeks a court order mandating gender screening for all athletes competing in women’s sports.
The request is part of a broader effort by the NCAA to address concerns about transgender athletes participating in women’s sports. The organization has stated that it will not grant waivers for biological men to compete on women’s teams despite amended birth certificates or other forms of identification.
