Craig Zobel Extends First-Look Deal with HBO

Craig Zobel has secured a multi-year first-look deal with HBO, solidifying his status as a prominent creative force at the network. The deal comes after five years of working under back-to-back overall deals. Notably, Zobel recently led the production of HBO’s limited series “The Penguin,” starring Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, which has garnered significant attention for its viewership.

The eight-episode series drew 5.3 million viewers in its debut weekend and saw its viewership grow throughout its run, with the finale up more than 50% from its initial audience. Zobel’s success is also evident in his previous work, including directing and executive producing the Emmy Award-winning “Mare of Easttown” and starring as a director and showrunner on CBS All Access’ miniseries “One Dollar.”

Zobel brings extensive experience to HBO, with episodic directing credits spanning across multiple platforms, including “The Leftovers,” “Westworld,” and “American Gods.” This new deal is a testament to the network’s commitment to nurturing talented creators like Zobel.
