Mayor Eric Adams Fundraiser Charged in Kickback Scheme Over City Contracts

A fundraiser for Mayor Eric Adams has been charged with a kickback scheme involving city contracts, sparking concerns about potential plea negotiations and the mayor’s administration. Weihong Hu, who hosted two fundraisers for Adams’ 2021 campaign, was indicted on public corruption charges, accused of bribing Exodus Transitional Community CEO Julio Medina to secure millions of dollars in government-funded contracts.

Hu allegedly paid Medina $2.5 million in bribes in exchange for $51 million in contracts, with prosecutors alleging that the scheme involved secret payments and inflated invoices submitted to the city. The investigation also revealed ties between Hu’s fundraising activities and Adams’ top Asian community advisor and fundraiser, Winnie Greco.

The charges come as part of a broader probe into Adams’ administration, which has already seen several high-profile investigations into campaign finance practices and potential wrongdoing by key figures. If Hu were to cooperate with prosecutors, she could potentially become an explosive witness against the embattled mayor.
