Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are set to reprise their roles as Cara and Jacob Dutton in the upcoming season 2 of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel, 1923. The show is expected to explore new frontiers globally.
Mirren notes that Sheridan has written a worldwide story, with multiple adventures taking place around the world. Despite this, she emphasizes that individual storylines feel personal and contained. “The relationship between Cara and Jacob is intimate and small, but at the same time, it’s epic,” Mirren says.
The couple’s characters have been hardened by their circumstances, transforming them into survivalists. Ford notes that their personalities were forged in these tough conditions, making them tougher people. The Dutton family faces numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and threats to their lives, which has transformed them into “tough, tough people who had to do things that were either distasteful or impossible for people in our culture.”
Mirren adds that her character chooses to focus on the present moment rather than worrying about the looming chaos ahead. She describes these characters as being driven by instinct, dealing with what’s immediately in front of them and pushing forward.
The season 2 premiere is set for February 23 on Paramount+.
