San Mateo-based company Alef Aeronautics has made history by successfully testing a flying car that can drive and take off vertically. The test took place on a closed-off city road in the Bay Area, where an ultralight version of the vehicle lifted off the ground and flew over a parked car.
This marks the first time a flying car has been tested with both driving and vertical takeoff capabilities. Alef Aeronautics claims it is 100% electric, allowing it to be driven on public roads and featuring advanced vertical landing technology.
The company received 3,330 pre-orders for its innovative vehicle, which aims to revolutionize transportation. CEO Jim Dukhovny hailed the test as a significant proof of concept in a real-world city environment, drawing comparisons to the Wright Brothers’ historic Kitty Hawk flight that marked the beginning of aviation.
