3 Years Later: Church Honors Lives Lost in Ukraine War

The St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church held a small yet impactful ceremony on Sunday to mark the three-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine. The event was attended by Ukrainians living in the community and those supporting them.

Father John Charest, the church’s pastor, spoke about the somber occasion: “It’s like watching your child grow – where does the time go?” He expressed his hope that progress is being made towards peace, citing renewed talks about a deal and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s willingness to step down for it.

The church also honored those affected by the war, holding a memorial service for lives lost. Every week, they pray for 24 names of people impacted, including mothers, children, and prisoners of war. Despite feeling overwhelmed, Charest remains positive, saying, “I want to stay very positive, and I need to keep people positive.”
