Exercise Reduces Dementia Risk by 41% Even in Frail Adults

A new study has found that small amounts of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week can significantly reduce the risk of developing dementia, even for frail older adults. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 90,000 British adults and found that engaging in as little as 35 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week was associated with a 41% lower risk of developing dementia over an average four-year follow-up period. The study suggests that increasing physical activity, even as little as five minutes per day, can reduce dementia risk in older adults. This adds to growing evidence that some exercise is better than nothing, especially for aging-related disorders like dementia.
