The 2025 SAG Awards brought joy and surprise to the packed house, recognizing outstanding performances in film and television before the Oscars. The evening honored actors’ early roles, including guest spots on “Law & Order” series, as well as critically acclaimed performances.
Timothée Chalamet took home the award for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role, beating out Adrien Brody’s competition with his dynamic performance and transparency about his process.
However, some unexpected snubs emerged. “The Bear” and “Hacks” lost to “Only Murders in the Building” in the Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series category, leaving fans wondering if the hype for “The Bear” is starting to wane. The show’s star, Jean Smart, won her third consecutive award for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series, but her team was left empty-handed.
Other surprises included Martin Short winning Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series, with his consistently wacky and heartfelt performance in “Only Murders in the Building” taking the top spot. The film ensemble winner was “Conclave,” which has opened up the Oscar race with just one week left.
Unfortunately, two major winners were absent from the ceremony: Jean Smart and Martin Short, who both had to miss due to commitments and illness, respectively. Furthermore, stunt performers on the red carpet felt overlooked, given the show’s focus on fashion.
The evening also lacked chemistry in several reunions, including those of “The X Files” and “New Girl.” However, one moment stole the show – Harrison Ford’s inadvertent comedic timing during a segment, which had the audience in stitches.
