Toronto’s Pearson airport has resumed normal operations after a week-long disruption caused by a plane crash and two major snowstorms. The runway where Delta Air Lines’ plane crashed last Monday is now open, while cleanup efforts continue at another closed runway.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that only 1% of departing flights and 2% of arriving ones have been cancelled, within normal ranges. All passengers on board survived, with four crew members also unharmed after the plane burst into flames. The airline has offered $30,000 US in compensation to affected passengers, although at least two individuals have filed lawsuits.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred as the plane flipped over and skidded on the tarmac. Despite the emergency response, officials credit a “miracle” for preventing any fatalities.
