Canadian rapper Drake has finally secured a win in his long-standing rap beef with Kendrick Lamar, as his joint album ” $ome $exy $ongs 4 U” with PartyNextDoor topped the Billboard 200 at No. 1.
The album earned an equivalent of 246,000 album units in the US this week, marking PartyNextDoor’s first leader on the albums chart. This victory cements Drake’s position as a top artist, tying him with Jay-Z and Taylor Swift for the most No. 1 sets among solo artists, with a total of 14 No. 1 albums.
Kendrick Lamar had previously taken the top spot with his album “GNX” last week, following his performance at the Super Bowl. However, Drake’s joint album has now taken the lead, with the largest streaming week for any album this year – logging over 287 million streams since its debut. This surpasses Lamar’s “GNX,” which earned 379.72 million streams in December.
The success of both albums has seen other artists make a push for the top spot. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” reissue has moved to No. 2 with 156,000 equivalent album units, while Dolly Parton featured on a remix of Lamar’s “Please Please Please,” further solidifying its position in the chart.
