Measles Outbreak Alert in San Marcos, TX Area

A potential measles outbreak has been reported in the San Marcos area of Hays County, Texas, due to a person who tested positive for measles visiting the area from February 14th to 8th, 2025. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) notified the Hays County Health Department about the possible exposure.

Residents who visited Texas State University between 3 pm and 7 pm or Twin Peaks Restaurant from 6 pm to 10 pm may be at risk. Since January, 90 cases of measles have been identified across seven counties, with 16 people being hospitalized.

Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease spread by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing. Vaccination is the best way to prevent getting sick. If you think you’ve been exposed or are experiencing symptoms like high fever, runny nose, and red eyes, isolate yourself from others and call your healthcare provider before arriving for testing.

According to Hays County Judge Ruben Beccera, the county has taken steps to improve public health response to emergencies like this outbreak. The department is working closely with partner agencies to minimize the impact of any potential measles outbreak.
