Avowed Review: A Solid Fantasy RPG from Obsidian

More than six years after its predecessor, Pillars of Eternity, Avowed has finally arrived, transporting players back to the world of Eora with a choice between third-person and first-person perspectives. While opinions about the game vary, it’s clear that Obsidian is pleased with its post-launch reception.

According to Carrie Patel, the game director, the studio would “love to do more” with Avowed, sparking hopes for potential DLC and even a sequel. The game’s strong sales and positive reviews, including an 80 on Metacritic and a 79% rating on Steam, seem to support this possibility.

Avowed has been praised for its engaging combat, exploration, and side quests, which encourage players to venture off the beaten track. While not without its weaknesses, the game has been well-received overall, making it a solid choice for fans of fantasy RPGs.

With John Gonzalez, the lead writer for Fallout New Vegas, returning to Obsidian, there’s speculation that more Avowed or Pillars games could be in development. For now, Avowed is available and worth checking out, especially for those looking for an alternative to other open-world games.
