Convicted fraudster Billy McFarland is set to revive his infamous Fyre Festival brand with a sequel event called Fyre 2, scheduled for May 30 to June 2 on Mexico’s Isla Mujeres. Tickets are now available for up to $1.7 million, despite no confirmed acts yet.
The original Fyre Festival in 2017 was marred by poor organization, resulting in attendees finding makeshift tents, subpar food, and limited facilities on a Bahamas island. McFarland was sentenced to six years’ prison for defrauding investors of $38.5 million, but has since been released and is now planning the Fyre 2 event.
McFarland claims his new iteration will be different, focusing on “selling the experience” rather than logistics. He has partnered with a Mexican festival producer, Lostnights, to handle the organization. Approximately 2000 tickets are available, ranging from $2206 to $1.7 million, with exclusive packages offering luxury accommodations and personalized services.
McFarland acknowledges that attendees will be taking a risk by attending the event, citing his past mistakes as an example. However, he believes Fyre 2 will offer a unique adventure for those willing to take it. The sequel’s lineup is yet to be confirmed, but McFarland promises a diverse mix of electronic, hip-hop, rock, and pop acts.
Fyre Festival 2 marks the first time McFarland has attempted to organize an event since his release from prison in 2022. It remains unclear if he will attend the event himself due to travel restrictions stemming from his conviction.
