Cowboys co-owner and COO Stephen Jones has outlined the team’s new approach for the 2025 offseason, promising a “selectively aggressive” strategy that aims to rebound from last season’s disappointing 7-10 finish. The plan is to focus on key areas, including extending standout players like Micah Parsons and potentially addressing the free agency situation of Osa Odighizuwa.
Jones’ comments come after Parsons expressed hope for the Cowboys to take a more “aggressive” approach this offseason. Parsons, who is seeking an extension, hopes that the team won’t be caught off guard by other teams building and investing heavily in their rosters. Jones acknowledged Parsons’ desire for a quicker resolution but emphasized that every contract negotiation is unique.
Another pressing issue is Odighizuwa’s potential departure via free agency. The Cowboys are engaged in discussions with his agent, but no details have been disclosed. Jones stressed the importance of locking up key players like Odighizuwa, saying “We’re focusing right now on Osa getting a deal done.”
The team has already lost Hall of Famer Zack Martin to retirement, and Demarcus Lawrence’s future is uncertain due to his recent injury. While Jones acknowledged that their approach may be perceived as pugnacious, he remains confident that it will lead to better dividends in the long run.
“We’re gonna look at everything we can,” Jones said. “We’re gonna be selectively aggressive. We’re gonna try to improve our football team — not try, we’re gonna improve our football team. We expect to have success next year.”
