“Beyond The Gates” Brings Fresh Perspective to Daytime Drama

A new daytime soap opera, “Beyond the Gates,” is making history by bringing a fresh approach to storytelling. The show focuses on the Dupree family, a prominent Black family living in a gated community outside Washington, D.C. Actors Clifton Davis and Tamara Tunie lead the cast alongside daughters Daphnée Duplaix and Karla Mosley. The production team, led by executive producers Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean, is making their own history with the show as the first Black female executive producers in daytime drama.

The show’s writers are creating a unique narrative that centers on the Black experience, featuring rich and messy characters that carry authentic stories. Behind the camera, the crew has prioritized representation, hiring African American cameramen, costumers, lighting, and crew members. Hair designer Wankaya Hinkson emphasizes the importance of capturing the diversity of Black culture in the production.

The creators aim to deliver dramatic storytelling while making content that resonates with everyone. When asked about their hopes for audiences, Tamara Tunie said she hopes viewers fall in love with the show’s perfection, flaws, and humanity. With its fresh approach and inclusive team, “Beyond the Gates” is poised to bring a new perspective to daytime drama.
