Delta Flight Returns to Atlanta After Cabin Fills with Smoke

A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday morning due to a mysterious “haze” that filled the cabin. The Boeing 717 aircraft, carrying 94 passengers and five crew members, had taken off just 30 minutes earlier.

Video footage shows the passenger cabin filling with smoke after which passengers used emergency slides to evacuate the aircraft. The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta, citing a haze inside the aircraft as the reason for the sudden turnaround.

Delta apologized to affected customers, providing ground transportation and rebooking options for those on board. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

This midair scare comes amidst a series of recent aviation incidents in the US, including a Delta flight that burst into flames at Toronto Pearson Airport last month.
