Paddy Pimblett is confident he will outperform Ilia Topuria when they face off in the lightweight division. Pimblett recently spoke to Round Eight Boxing, where he made it clear that he has no intention of sharing the 155-pound title with “El Matador.”
Topuria made a shocking move up from featherweight after vacating his title and now faces Makhachev for the championship belt. However, many are skeptical about Topuria’s chances at this weight class due to his underwhelming performance against Alexander Volkanovski in their initial bout.
Pimblett believes that Topuria is in over his head, especially when compared to the likes of Pimblett himself. The British fighter thinks Topuria should have stayed at featherweight and now faces a potentially disastrous decision in moving up to the lightweight division.
With a string of impressive victories under his belt, including consecutive knockouts against Volkanovski and Holloway, Pimblett is confident that he has what it takes to dethrone the current champion, Islam Makhachev.
In their upcoming fight against former title challenger Michael Chandler on April 12 at Kaseya Center in Miami, Pimblett will look to make a statement in his rise up the lightweight ranks and prove himself as a top contender.
