Google has announced that its AI coding tool, Gemini Code Assist, is now available to everyone for free. The tool was initially released as an enterprise product last year and offered many of the same features as the new version. Developed with a large language model (LLM), Gemini Code Assist integrates seamlessly into existing development environments, providing real-time suggestions and addressing specific challenges.
Key benefits of Gemini Code Assist include 180,000 code completions per month, far exceeding that of Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, which limits users to just 2,000 code completions and 50 chat messages. With the new free tier, individual developers can now access this powerful tool without incurring a monthly fee. Google’s decision marks a significant shift towards making high-quality AI coding tools accessible to everyone, regardless of their skill level or company size.
