Framework has announced its first desktop PC, which is a modular machine that features the AMD Strix Halo processor. This processor is a Zen 4 chiplet processor with up to 16 cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, making it an attractive option for gamers.
The desktop PC comes in three different configurations: the Ryzen AI Max 385, which starts at $1,099, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which goes up to $1,999, and a custom option with a full 128 GB LPDDR5x. While the prices are not cheap, the Strix Halo processor is expected to deliver exceptional performance.
The desktop PC will have a mini-ITX standard motherboard inside it, rocking one of the new Ryzen AI Max processors, allowing for full 120 W of power and optional boosted grunt. Framework has retained its modular Expansion Card system to allow users to customize their machine’s front panel operation and add translucent side panels.
What sets this desktop PC apart is that users can opt to buy the mini-ITX Ryzen AI Max motherboard on its own, allowing them to build or modify it as desired. This flexibility makes the desktop PC more accessible to a wider range of customers.
Pre-orders for the desktop PC are expected to open in early Q3, with delivery scheduled around mid-year.
