Faith Leaders Boycott Target Over Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

Father Michael Pfleger, a prominent faith leader in Chicago, has joined other activists across the country in calling for consumers to boycott Target stores. The boycott is in response to the retailer’s decision to scale back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Pfleger claims that ending DEI programs is a slap in the face to many consumers and wants the community to fight against it. He urges shoppers to “flex their dollar power” to make their voices heard.

President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to dismantle federal DEI programs has prompted more retailers to follow suit. Target, in particular, has ended its diversity goals as a strong DEI opponent occupies the White House.

Faith leaders across the country are boycotting Target stores, with some consumers showing support for the movement and others opposing it. Cathy Coignarg, a consumer who supports DEI initiatives, said she is willing to boycott Target to make her voice heard.

On the other hand, Matt Thompson expressed his disagreement with the boycott, stating that it’s not necessary to stop shopping at stores that align with their values.

Victoria Watkins, however, has taken a strategic approach by boycotting Target and opting for its Black-owned brands instead. She believes in supporting local businesses like Uncle Funky’s Daughter and TGIN.

Father Pfleger warned that those who fail to stand up against the perceived disrespect will face consequences from the community.

A coordinated protest is planned at Target stores nationwide next Friday, with faith leaders aiming to draw attention to their cause.
