A new outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in New Jersey, with two counties reporting cases among wild geese. In Monmouth County, parts of Allentown Borough were closed due to dead geese testing positive for the virus, while another case was reported in Burlington County’s Pemberton.
Despite this, there is no evidence of human transmission locally, and health officials are advising people not to walk their dogs in areas where large numbers of geese congregate. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes that humans can still contract bird flu through close contact with infected birds or contaminated surfaces.
