Apple Unveils Plans for New Smart Home Display with A18 Chip and Display

Apple is reportedly working on a new smart home display that will integrate the company’s Apple Intelligence feature set, including Siri, in a more affordable package than an iPad. The device, internally known as ‘HomeAccessory’ under codename J490, is expected to have an A18 chipset, supporting advanced AI capabilities and a range of innovative features.

According to sources, the display will feature a 6-inch square aspect ratio, similar to two iPhones side by side, with a thick edge around the screen. The device will also include a built-in camera at the top center for FaceTime and video conferencing apps. Additionally, Apple is developing a system that uses external sensors to detect the number of people in the room.

The new smart home product will run on Apple’s “homeOS” operating system, based on tvOS 18 beta, and will include features such as customizable home screens with widgets for tracking stock tickers and appointments. The device will be released in the spring of 2025, although some reports suggest it could arrive as early as March.

With its unique form factor, Apple’s HomeAccessory is expected to be an attractive option for consumers looking for a smart display that integrates seamlessly with their existing home setup.
