A 40-year-old man from Pereira, Colombia attempted to board a flight from Cartagena to Amsterdam with $10,000 worth of cocaine stuffed into a wig. However, authorities caught him using security scanners, revealing the hidden substance glued to his head.
The unnamed suspect was stopped by anti-narcotics police and had two prior charges for drug trafficking. The seizure prevented the sale of over 400 doses of cocaine, according to Colombian National Police.
This incident raises questions about Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s recent statement that cocaine is “no worse than whiskey.” While Petro claimed scientists have analyzed the issue, law enforcement in Colombia appears to be taking a more cautious approach.
Cocaine remains illegal due to its production in Latin America and potential harm to users. Authorities are not swayed by Petro’s assessment, instead relying on evidence-based approaches to combat narcotics trafficking.
