The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has canceled a critical meeting with outside advisers to discuss flu vaccine composition for this fall’s flu season, according to Dr. Paul Offit, a member of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC). The committee typically meets every March to select flu strains for vaccines produced on a six-month cycle.
The meeting was scheduled for March 13 but was suddenly canceled without explanation, leaving concerns about how vaccine manufacturers will receive guidance on seasonal flu vaccines this year. Dr. Offit expressed uncertainty about the cancellation and plans for future advice from the World Health Organization (WHO).
