A nationwide one-day economic boycott is planned for February 28, with consumers encouraged to abstain from spending any money at corporations deemed to be promoting corporate greed and rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The movement aims to pressure companies such as Amazon, Nestle, Walmart, and Target into reversing decisions on DEI initiatives.
Organized by activist John Schwarz, the boycott is part of a larger strategy to promote social justice and community involvement. Similar boycotts have been successful in recent years, prompting retailers to rein in their diversity efforts. However, experts warn that clear actions outlined are crucial for the boycott’s success.
Other consumer boycotts are underway, including a national boycott of Target launched by civil rights activists, a 40-day fast or boycott of Target, and a “Latino Freeze” movement encouraging supporters to shop only for essentials at local businesses owned by Latino Americans. The Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network has also called for strategic boycotts against companies that have dropped their DEI commitments.
