Google has received US FDA clearance for its Loss of Pulse Detection feature, now available on the Pixel Watch 3. This first-of-its-kind technology can automatically detect a loss of pulse and prompt emergency services if needed.
The feature was announced in 2024 for EU markets but is now rolling out to the US at the end of March. It’s another safety feature added to the watch, joining existing tools like Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and the ECG app.
For those unaware, Loss of Pulse Detection can help save lives by calling emergency services if you’re unresponsive due to a primary cardiac arrest, overdose, or other causes. However, it may not detect every instance of a loss of pulse and is only intended for healthy users without preexisting heart conditions.
Users should note that the feature doesn’t diagnose or treat medical conditions and requires a charged phone or watch with cellular connectivity to work properly. Availability varies by country and region, but this technology can bring significant peace of mind to those who wear Pixel Watch 3.
