Israel-Hamas Truce to Hold for Weeks, Diplomacy Kicks In

The truce between Israel and Hamas has been extended for a few more weeks, with both parties agreeing to avoid a ceasefire collapse. However, a permanent agreement remains elusive, with phase two of the deal still in negotiations.

The initial six-week peace agreement, which took effect on January 19th, paused hostilities and promised the release of 33 Israeli hostages being held in Gaza. A full ceasefire would only come once phase two is finalized, with the details still to be discussed.

Diplomacy has proven to be a delaying tactic in this case, as both sides aim to avoid the complexities of a permanent agreement.
