Apple has confirmed that it will roll out its long-awaited Apple Intelligence feature in phases, with the first phase set to drop about a month after the release of the iPhone 16. The delayed AI features were initially expected to launch with iOS 18 but are now unlikely to be included.
Instead, Apple has announced that the iPhone 16 will launch without AI features, but those who upgrade to iOS 19 later this year can expect significant improvements to Siri and other AI-powered services. These updates include a new “LLM Siri” chatbot, which is similar to ChatGPT, allowing users to conduct conversations identical to what ChatGPT can do.
However, Apple’s LLM Siri chatbot will not be available until the spring of 2026, along with iOS 19.4. Other features set to launch with iOS 18 have been postponed until 2026, including a new “App Intents” software that allows for more control over third-party apps.
Apple has opted to delay these updates to ensure they are polished and finished, rather than releasing them commercially with warnings of potential issues. This approach is similar to what Apple’s biggest rivals are doing, and the company believes it will give them time to catch up after starting late in the AI upgrade game.
