Windows 11 24H2 Fails with USB Scanning Devices and More

Windows 11 version 24H2 is plagued by compatibility issues, with thousands of beta testers seemingly unable to catch them all. The latest problem affecting users is the incompatibility between Windows 11 24H2 and USB scanning devices using eSCL technology. This issue has already caused service disruptions in businesses and homes.

Microsoft confirmed that after installing the update, devices supporting eSCL may not be discoverable anymore. The eSCL protocol provides support for USB peripherals without specific system drivers, but it seems Windows 11 24H2 can’t switch between modes properly. As a result, scanners, printers, fax machines, and other network devices have become unusable.

The problem started after Microsoft rolled out the update on October 1, 2024. Companies are seeking quick fixes or workarounds, but Microsoft hasn’t provided a timeline for a patch. Users are advised to avoid manually installing the new release until the issue is resolved. Developers continue working on a resolution, but it’s unclear when a fix will be available.
