AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 Graphics Cards to Launch on March 6

AMD has officially revealed its new Radeon graphics cards, the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. The company claims that the 9070 XT will be 42% faster than the popular RX 7900 GRE in average performance, surpassing even its current flagship, the 7900 XTX, in some games with ray tracing enabled.

The RX 9070 XT will launch at a price of $599, while the RX 9070 will cost $549. Both cards boast 16GB of memory and utilize RDNA 4 compute units, which offer significant performance improvements over RDNA 3. The new cards also feature third-generation ray tracing accelerators, providing double the ray-tracing throughput per compute unit.

AMD has tempered expectations for its new launch, stating that the RX 9070 XT will compete with Nvidia’s 4070 and 5070 tier models rather than the high-end RTX 5090 or 5080. However, in some games with ray tracing enabled, the 9070 XT is expected to outperform its current flagship.

In benchmarks, AMD’s RX 9070 XT shows a 51% performance advantage over the older RX 6900 XT and a 26% boost compared to Nvidia’s RTX 3090. The RX 9070 XT is also claimed to be just 2% slower than Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti.

The more affordable Radeon RX 9070 will launch at $549, offering 38% faster performance at 4K resolution compared to the Radeon RX 6800 XT and 26% faster performance compared to the RTX 3080.

AMD is also introducing FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR4), a new upscaling technology that promises improved image quality. The company will be supporting FSR4 in over 30 games at launch, along with its driver-level performance-enhancing feature HYPR-RX.

The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are set to launch on March 6, with AMD aiming to avoid the shortages and high prices seen with Nvidia’s recent launches by ensuring a good stock of products.
