Kia Unveils Light Camper Electric Van to Challenge Volkswagen

Kia is entering the electric camper market with its new Light Camper van, built on the PV5 electric van platform. The mid-sized van will launch in Korea and Europe later this year, starting at £29,000 ($37,000). Kia aims to rival Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz with its own light camper offering.

The Light Camper features a range of up to 250 miles on a 51.5-kWh battery, with charging times as fast as 30 minutes. It also offers various interior configurations, including fold-out tables and storage for camping gear. The van is designed as an “escape pod” for extended weekends in nature.

In addition to the Light Camper, Kia will also offer other versions of the PV5 van, including a Chassis Cab, Crew Cab, Freezer Box, Drop Side, and WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle). These models will follow the launch of the Passenger and Cargo options later this year.

Kia’s plans for the electric camper market are part of its broader efforts to expand its EV range. The company has also revealed a new concept, the EV2, which is set to launch in 2026. This mini urban SUV will compete with other models like the Renault 5 and Hyundai Inster.
