India and the European Union have agreed to meet a year-end deadline for negotiating a free trade pact between the two nations. During a two-day visit, the European Commission’s president met with Indian officials to discuss key areas of cooperation, including batteries, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductor chips.
The EU is India’s largest trading partner in goods, highlighting the importance of a comprehensive agreement that can boost bilateral trade and investment. However, the talks are expected to be challenging due to lingering concerns about tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump on Indian goods.
As negotiations progress, it remains to be seen whether India and the EU can overcome their differences and reach a mutually beneficial deal before the end of the year.
