Amazon’s latest update to its virtual assistant Alexa aims to improve its capabilities and competitiveness in the market. The new AI-powered version, named Alexa+, offers enhanced features such as multimodal interactions, conversational chains of commands, and more.
Alexa+ can now process visual information via your device’s cameras, understand and answer questions more naturally, and engage in tasks for you on Amazon-partnered websites. This includes browsing the internet, booking appointments, and completing tasks like ordering a professional repairman for a damaged appliance.
The new service also features conversational chains of commands, allowing Alexa to fulfill tasks throughout your daily apps and services, including your calendar and emails. It can even recommend local pizzerias and remember specific preferences, such as “Mary likes Greek and Indian food.”
In addition to these features, Alexa+ includes a refreshed home screen on Echo Show devices, allowing for more personalized content and information. The service also supports AI-powered video search, enables dense document processing, and allows users to explore and create stories.
Alexa+ is now available at $19.99 per month or free for Amazon Prime members. It will be rolled out over the next few weeks, with additional support expected in the coming months.
