Three college football players with ties to the state of Utah have made a strong impression at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. BYU’s Tyler Batty, Utah’s Junior Tafuna, and Utah State’s Jalen Royals showcased their skills in front of scouts and coaches from all 32 teams.
Batty, who played defensive end for BYU, was the only local to complete all seven combine drills. He recorded impressive times in the 40-yard dash (4.78 seconds), 10-yard split (1.69 seconds), and bench press (27 reps). However, scouts noted that he lacks length and quickness to beat blockers.
Tafuna, a defensive tackle from Utah, participated in only four combine drills. He showed flashes of athleticism with a 5.03-second 40-yard dash time and 24 bench press reps. Scouts praised his gritty playstyle but noted that he’s an early-down-only player with limited upside.
Royals, a wide receiver from Utah State, had the best NFL Combine performance among locals. He recorded a 4.42-second 40-yard dash time and 13 bench press reps. Scouts praised his body control, feel for the game, and ability to adjust routes.
Each prospect received individual analysis from NFL analyst Lance Zierlein, who provided insight into their strengths and weaknesses. The 2025 NFL Combine is a crucial step in the draft process, and these local college football players are hoping to make a lasting impression on NFL teams.
