Joe Highsmith Makes History with Cognizant Classic Win

Joe Highsmith’s incredible turnaround at the Cognizant Classic has cemented his place in PGA Tour history. The 24-year-old golfer, who made the cut on Friday despite a nervous par putt, went on to win the tournament by the lowest score in 14 years.

Highsmith’s stunning performance saw him rally from a four-shot deficit to claim victory with a pair of 6-under 64s over the weekend. He played some of the best golf of his life, including three straight birdies around the turn and a clutch 20-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th.

Highsmith’s win marks the first time a player has made the cut on the number and won since Brandt Snedeker in 2016. It also earns him a spot at the Masters for the first time, a tournament he had previously watched as a spectator.

The victory was not without its challenges, however. Fellow competitor Jake Knapp struggled after holding a one-shot lead, finishing with a triple bogey and ultimately tying for sixth. Highsmith’s win has propelled him into contention for other prestigious tournaments, including the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the PGA Championship.

With his impressive performance, Highsmith has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour. His journey from making the cut to winning a tournament in just two days is an inspiration to aspiring golfers everywhere.
