Grammy-Nominated Singer Angie Stone Killed in Car Crash at 63

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, a member of the all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence and known for hit songs like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” was killed early Saturday in a car crash. She was 63.

According to music producer and Stone’s longtime manager Walter Millsap III, the vehicle she was riding in back to Atlanta from Alabama flipped over and was hit by a big rig around 4:25 a.m. on Interstate 65. Everyone else in the cargo van survived, except for Stone.

The Alabama Highway Patrol confirmed that the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van turned over before being struck by a Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Texas. Angie Stone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven others in the van were taken to Baptist Medical Center for treatment, and officials are investigating the cause of the crash.

Angie Stone’s children, Diamond and Michael Archer, released a statement saying they are “heartbroken” and still trying to process the news. Music industry figures, including CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker and Pastor Jerome Barber, have also expressed their condolences.

Stone had a successful music career, with hits like “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” and appeared in several films and TV shows, including “The Hot Chick” and “R&B Divas: Atlanta.”
