Anora Oscar Winner: Where to Stream and Watch the Acclaimed Comedy-Drama Film

Anora, an Oscar-winning comedy-drama film written and directed by Sean Baker, has become a hit worldwide. The film grossed over $40 million globally after its theater release on October 18, 2024. Anora earned five out of six Oscar nominations and took home the award for Best Picture.

The movie tells the story of Ani (played by Mikey Madison), a young sex worker from Brooklyn who falls in love with Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn) after meeting him on the job. However, their fairytale romance is disrupted when Vanya’s parents discover he married a sex worker and try to annul the marriage.

Ani’s character was portrayed by Madison, who met with sex workers, worked with dance instructors, and visited Los Angeles strip clubs to prepare for her role. “I wanted to understand that community in a really specific way,” she said. “I didn’t want it to be sensationalized or dramatized in a negative way.”

Anora will begin streaming on Hulu on March 17. The film is currently available to rent or buy on various platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, YouTube, and others.

In his acceptance speech for Best Director, Baker urged viewers to keep the traditional movie-going experience alive. “Watching a film in the theater with an audience is an experience,” he said. “We can laugh together, cry together, scream and fright together…in a time in which the world can feel very divided, this is more important than ever.”
